THE BOOM BAP PHILLY: Featuring DJ Jay-Ski

SATURDAY APRIL 21st AT FLUID — Jay Ski was the official tour DJ for the New Jazz Philosophy tour, featuring Busta Rhymes, The Roots, Common, Talib Kweli, Mya, The Pharcyde, EPMD, Mobb Deep, and more. Jay’s latest accomplishment is being the DJ for the “One World Hip Hop Championship”, in which three episodes have aired on MTV2, hosted by Philadelphia hip hop legend Parry P. Jay Ski is also a member of the Skratch Makaniks Crew, a national DJ collective founded in 2000.

SATURDAY MARCH 24th AT THE FIVE SPOT -- In 1991 Rob Swift joined the groundbreaking turntablist crew the X-ecutioners (Roc Raida, Total Eclipse, and Mista Sinista). Within a year of joining the X, he won the coveted DMC East Coast title, becoming world renowned as a master beat juggler (manually rearranging actual drum beats from vinyl in real time). In 2001, Rob Swift was featured in the DJ documentary SCRATCH. He has appeared on ESPN, The Late Show with David Letterman, and even Sesame Street.

SATURDAY MARCH 17th AT FLUID -- DJ JS-1, hosted by RAHZEL. Born and raised in Queens, NY, DJ JS-1 was the first DJ to scratch for 2 minutes straight on live TV, and then perform a 3 man dj routine at 11:45pm LIVE in Times Square in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and aired on MTV around the globe simultaneously. -- Rahzel (rhymes with ‘gazelle’), a self-defined “vocal percussionist,” has perfectly mastered this quintessential hip hop art form and has emerged as a “true virtuoso.” To hear him is to be converted.
